- TRANSITION Progress Report
Project LEO is working in partnership with the SSEN led TRANSITION project. This is their 2020/21 Annual Progress Report made to OFGEM.
With the widespread recognition that the GB electricity network needs to become more flexible, Distributed Network Operators (DNOs) such as SSEN will take an increased role in delivering an efficient, coordinated and economical whole system outcome to support the UK’s Net Zero targets.
This transition toward the Distribution System Operator (DSO) model is especially significant as the proliferation of low-carbon technologies and solutions becomes more widespread, allowing households, businesses and communities to engage with the energy system. This includes customers, shifting from merely consuming energy, to producing, storing, balancing and selling energy back to the system. The objective of TRANSITION (partnered with Electricity North West Limited, CGI, Origami and Atkins) is to explore the most effective system architecture, tools, platforms and market mechanisms needed to enable this change.
The project is an OFGEM NIC (Network Innovation Competition) funded project and it is required to report to OFGEM annually on it’s progress and direction in the coming year.
